Wondering what exactly Radiesse does and why it's different from a regular filler? Radiesse is a biostimulating filler: it instantly gives your face more support and also kickstarts your own collagen production beneath the skin. On this page, you'll read in clear terms how Radiesse works, who it is and isn't suitable for, what a treatment at Dr T. involves, and what you can realistically expect in terms of results, timing, and safety.

Radiesse consists of calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres in a gel. Calcium hydroxyapatite is a substance that also occurs naturally in your bone tissue, so your body recognizes it well. Right after treatment, the gel immediately provides volume and support to the treated area.
What makes it special is what happens next. The microspheres form a kind of scaffold under your skin and trigger your body to produce new collagen of its own. We call that biostimulation. The gel is gradually broken down, but the newly formed collagen remains and gives your skin more firmness and quality over time.
That's why Radiesse works on two levels: an immediate filling effect and a gradual improvement of the skin structure. This makes it different from a classic hyaluronic acid filler, which primarily fills without actively stimulating your own collagen.
Radiesse is often chosen for areas that could use some structure and support, such as the jawline, chin, cheeks, or for improving skin quality on the neck or hands, for example. It suits those who see sagging and are looking for a natural, gradual firming result rather than a strong filling effect.
Not everyone is a good candidate. Radiesse is generally not suitable for highly mobile and sensitive areas like the lips. Also, treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in cases of certain autoimmune or skin disorders, active infection in the treatment area, or known hypersensitivity.
At Dr T., you'll get an honest answer about this. Sometimes Radiesse is the best choice, sometimes a biostimulator such as Sculptra, a hyaluronic acid filler, or a combination fits your face and wishes better. If a treatment isn't useful or safe, we'll simply tell you so.
Everything starts with a consultation. We'll look at your face together, listen to what bothers you and what you hope to achieve, and discuss whether Radiesse is the right answer. Your medical history and any medications are explicitly part of that.
During the treatment, Dr T. precisely applies the product using a needle or a microcannula, depending on the area. Often the product already contains a numbing agent or a local anesthetic is used to keep it comfortable. A session typically doesn't take long, and you can usually continue your day afterwards.
After the treatment, you'll receive clear aftercare instructions, such as not massaging the area firmly and avoiding intense heat or sports the first day. We remain reachable if you have questions afterwards.
You often see an immediate improvement from the direct volume effect. That initial result may change slightly in the first days due to mild swelling. The true, refined result develops gradually, as your own collagen is produced, typically over a period of a few weeks to months.
The collagen-stimulating effect means that Radiesse results often last a long time. Exactly how long varies from person to person and depends on the area, your skin, and your lifestyle. Sometimes a maintenance treatment after some time is useful to preserve the result.
What we find important: the result should suit you. Dr T.'s philosophy is subtle and respectful, so we aim for a natural enhancement that strengthens your face, not changes it.
As with any injection, after a Radiesse treatment you may experience temporary reactions such as redness, mild swelling, tenderness, or a bruise at the injection site. This is usually mild and disappears on its own within a few days.
Rarer risks exist, such as nodules, irregularities in the result, infection, or, very exceptionally, puncturing a blood vessel. A careful technique, thorough assessment beforehand, and treatment by a physician reduce these risks. Unlike hyaluronic acid, Radiesse cannot be dissolved with an enzyme, so we carefully consider beforehand whether it is the right choice.
That's why we find the medical framework so important. You'll get honest explanation beforehand about what is realistic and what the possible risks are, so you make an informed choice.
The price of a Radiesse treatment cannot be summed up in one figure. It depends on the area you want treated, how much product is needed, and whether it's one area or a combination. A larger or multiple treatment logically costs more than a small, targeted correction.
During the consultation, we'll look together at what's needed and you'll get an honest, transparent estimate of the cost, with no surprises afterwards. That way, you know exactly what to expect beforehand.
Curious whether Radiesse is something for you? Feel free to schedule a consultation at Dr T. in Ghent. We'll calmly look at it together and give you honest advice, even if a different treatment or no treatment suits you better.

Every treatment starts with a thorough consultation during which Dr T. maps out your wishes and your facial structure. Because Radiesse provides immediate volume as well as stimulates collagen, we determine the exact injection points together. The skin is cleaned and, if necessary, cooled with a cold compress, although most clients find the prickling minimal.
Using an extremely fine needle, Dr T. injects the Radiesse gel at a strategic depth. The procedure takes about 30 minutes. You feel a slight pressure, but thanks to the gentle technique the discomfort is minimal. Right after the treatment, you already see an initial improvement in volume and contours.
Mild swelling or redness at the injection sites is normal and subsides within 24 to 48 hours. You can immediately resume your daily activities, though we advise against intense exercise and heat sources like saunas for the first days. Smoking and excessive sun exposure can disrupt the collagen process, so you'll receive specific advice about that. We schedule a follow-up appointment to evaluate the results and make any adjustments if needed.
Radiesse is a biostimulating filler and Sculptra a biostimulator, so they work fundamentally differently. Radiesse contains calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres that carry a volume gel and also serve as a scaffold for new collagen. Sculptra is based on poly-L-lactic acid and builds collagen step by step, without a direct filling effect. Radiesse is therefore stronger at addressing deeper folds, jawline tightening, and hollows in the cheeks. We tend to use Sculptra for diffuse volume loss over larger areas, such as entire cheeks or temples. Both deliver a completely natural result, never overdone. Dr T. always chooses based on your skin quality, aging pattern, and aesthetic goal. Sometimes we subtly combine them in one treatment plan for the most harmonious effect.
