Because your skin produces more collagen itself, Sculptra® works gradually. Your skin repairs itself from within and the contours improve step by step. The result looks subtle and natural, without it looking as if "something has been done".
The following areas of the face can be treated: the cheeks and cheekbones, the jawline (contour), the nasolabial folds, the marionette lines, the chin and the pre-jowl area. Not in the corners of the mouth and not in the T-zone: forehead, eyes, nose and around the mouth.
A Sculptra Face session with Dr T. takes 20 to 30 minutes and needs little recovery time. Here is what to expect:
You start with a short consultation. You discuss your wishes and expectations, and Dr T. examines your skin. Your skin is then cleansed. Dr T. does not use a numbing cream: he uses an anaesthetic with the injections.
Dr T. makes one small injection point on each side. From there, he places Sculptra® deep under the skin, in the areas where you want more volume, firmness or fresher-looking skin, and distributes the product evenly.
After the injections, Dr T. massages the treated areas so the product is evenly distributed. At home, you continue this yourself using the 5-5-5 rule: 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days.
You can usually go straight home and carry on with your day as normal. There may be some mild swelling or redness, but this fades quickly.
The result is not visible straight away. It develops gradually, as your skin produces more collagen itself. In the weeks to months after the treatment, your skin becomes firmer, fuller and smoother step by step, for a natural and long-lasting rejuvenation.

Sculptra consists of microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic, biocompatible material that has been safely used for decades in dissolvable sutures. Once the solution is injected into the deeper skin layers, the body recognises the particles as a natural trigger for tissue repair. This activates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
Unlike traditional fillers, which create volume by introducing an external substance, Sculptra sets in motion a regenerative process. The PLLA particles are slowly broken down into lactic acid and eventually into water and carbon dioxide. At the same time, the skin builds a new, firm network of mainly type I collagen, the structural protein that gives skin its firmness and elasticity. This explains why the result is not immediately visible, but develops gradually and lasts long.

Mild swelling and redness are normal and disappear within a few hours to a day. Bruising can occur, but is limited with good aftercare. You can wear makeup again after a few hours.
