The forehead filler is a treatment that uses hyaluronic acid filler to correct volume loss, hollows or irregularities in the forehead. With aging, the forehead can appear flatter or uneven, which can disrupt facial balance and create a tired look.
By carefully placing the filler, the forehead becomes smoother and the face regains harmony. This treatment is often chosen when the forehead has a sunken or restless appearance, and can contribute to a softer and fresher look without loss of natural expression.
The treatment starts with a personal consultation in which the forehead and facial proportions are analyzed. Then the filler is carefully injected into the forehead with a fine needle or cannula. The filler restores volume and smooths the surface, resulting in a natural and balanced appearance. The treatment proceeds in a controlled manner and is generally experienced as comfortable.
The forehead filler is suitable for adults who:
The treatment is never performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is less suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions. In these cases, prior medical advice is recommended.
Recovery time is usually limited. Slight swelling, redness or sensitivity may occur but typically disappear within a few days. Daily activities can usually be resumed quickly.
The result is almost immediately visible and further refines as any swelling subsides. The effect of a forehead filler lasts an average of 12 to 18 months. Maintenance treatments can prolong the result.

Many clients confuse a forehead filler with Botox, but both treatments work completely differently. Botox, or muscle relaxant, targets dynamic wrinkles, the lines that arise from muscle movements like frowning. It temporarily relaxes the muscles, making the overlying skin smoother. A filler, on the other hand, fills static wrinkles or volume loss. For this, we typically inject a safe, biocompatible hyaluronic acid (HA) into the forehead.
Whereas Botox takes a few hours to 3 days to show a first effect and lasts an average of 3-4 months, a forehead filler provides immediately visible volume and the result can last 12 to 18 months. The choice depends on your specific appearance: if you have deep creases that are also visible at rest, a filler is often the best option. For a lively mimic with fine lines, Botox may suffice. In many cases, I combine both techniques: Botox reduces muscle activity, while a minimal amount of filler softens the remaining groove. This way we preserve a lively, natural expression.
My approach always starts with an extensive analysis of your forehead. I look at bone structure, fat compartments, skin quality and your desired result. Importantly, a filler should never feel like a mask; the mobility of the forehead must be maintained. That's why I inject with utmost precision at the right depth, often with a cannula to minimize risks and limit swelling.
In my practice, you often hear the term biostimulation. This means we stimulate the skin from within to produce new collagen and elastin. Sculptra (a biostimulator) and Radiesse (a biostimulating filler) work this way. Sculptra is not used in the forehead, and Radiesse is less suitable for a very thin, mobile area like the forehead. The risk of lumps or irregularities is greater there, and the building effect is less controllable. For volume loss in cheeks, temples or jawline, areas where we want to create a solid foundation, biostimulators are excellent.
I consciously choose a hyaluronic acid forehead filler for its predictability and reversibility. Some modern HA fillers also have a mild biostimulating side effect: they activate fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen, which can subtly improve skin quality in the long term. Yet the primary function is volume increase. For a truly regenerative deep effect, I often combine a forehead filler with skinboosters. These consist of non-crosslinked or lightly crosslinked hyaluronic acid and are superficially inserted to deeply hydrate and make the skin glow. This way I work on two levels: deep volume restoration and superficial skin improvement, without it ever looking 'pumped'.
The art of a natural look lies in the ability to dose. I rarely treat with more than 0.5-1 ml filler in the forehead, spread over multiple micro-injections. By building up layer by layer and evaluating after a few weeks, we avoid overcorrection. My goal is a subtle refreshment: you simply look good, healthy and rested. The filler should never take center stage. When in doubt, I always recommend a trial consultation, where we get to know your ideal forehead visually before we touch a needle.
Do you recognize this?
A forehead filler is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It is a powerful instrument for specific, subtle improvements. Below are some recognizable scenarios in which this treatment truly makes a difference.
You see one or more vertical lines between the eyebrows that are also visible when your face is relaxed. Botox alone cannot fill these static creases sufficiently; filler smooths them out.
Due to aging or weight loss, the forehead loses support and dents or shadows appear. A filler restores the lost volume and brings the contours back into balance.
You desire a smoother, fuller forehead contour without the treatment being noticeable. With a minimal amount of filler at strategic points, you get a natural, youthful profile.
My practice in Ghent specializes in natural rejuvenation with filler, Botox and regenerative techniques. Clients travel from all over Flanders, and sometimes from far beyond, for an honest, subtle approach without excess. Whether you live in the historic center of Ghent, in the suburbs, or in Antwerp, Bruges, Kortrijk or Aalst: you are most welcome for a personal consultation. Your forehead deserves a practitioner who listens, analyzes and works with precision.
About your treatment
Where traditional hyaluronic acid fillers add immediate volume, biostimulators such as Sculptra and biostimulating fillers such as Radiesse work fundamentally differently. Sculptra, based on poly-L-lactic acid, is injected deep into the skin and stimulates the body to produce its own collagen. It does not give an immediate filling result, but gradually builds firmness and volume. In the forehead, however, we do not use Sculptra: the forehead belongs to the T-zone. Radiesse combines a direct volume effect with collagen stimulation thanks to calcium hydroxylapatite. The choice depends on your anatomy, skin quality and the desired time course of the result. During a consultation, we discuss which product best suits your forehead and wishes.
You already use Botox, but find that some lines remain. By adding a small amount of filler, we achieve a more complete harmony between muscle relaxation and volume filling.
Congenital asymmetry, scars or irregularities on the forehead can be subtly corrected with filler, so the forehead looks smoother without surgery.
