Do you feel that your cheeks are becoming flatter or hollower, or does your midface sink slightly downward? Then you're probably wondering what cheek fillers really do, and what the before-and-after difference looks like. On this page, we tell you honestly what you can expect. No exaggerated promises, but a clear picture: how your face looks before treatment, what changes, when you'll see the result, and when cheek fillers are just not the best choice. Subtle and respectful, as always at Dr T.

Cheek fillers restore volume where you've lost it over the years. As we age, fat and bone in the midface disappear, causing the cheeks to flatten and the face to appear slightly drooping. By placing a hyaluronic acid filler at the right height, that structure is supported again.
The difference between before and after often lies in details you don't immediately name but feel. Before treatment, your face may look a bit tired or sunken. After treatment, your cheeks appear slightly fuller and higher, giving your face a fresher and more balanced look. Important: the goal is not "blown up" cheeks, but restoration of what was there.
Because the cheeks are the central support point of your face, subtle rebuilding here often also has a beneficial effect on the transition to your lower face and the folds around your mouth.
Cheek fillers suit people who see volume loss in the midface, have flatter or hollow cheeks, or notice that their face has "drooped" over the years. Also, if you're younger and naturally have little cheek volume, a light support can be appropriate, as long as it stays natural.
But fillers in the cheeks are not always the right answer. Sometimes what you experience as "sunken cheeks" is actually skin sagging or a matter of the lower face, and then extra volume in the cheek doesn't solve it. We are honest about that: if a different approach fits better, or if less is simply more beautiful, we say so during the consultation.
Cheek fillers are discouraged during active inflammations or infections in the treatment area and with certain conditions, and are never given during pregnancy or breastfeeding. During your consultation, we go over your medical history so the treatment can be safe.
Everything starts with a conversation. Together, we look in the mirror at your face at rest and in motion, discuss what you notice and what you want, and assess whether cheek fillers make sense for you. Only when the plan is right and you feel good about it do we proceed.
The treatment itself usually doesn't take long. The filler is placed at a number of precise points, often with a fine needle or a blunt cannula to limit bruising. We work with a product that contains a local anesthetic, and the area can be numbed beforehand to keep you comfortable.
Right after the treatment, your face may feel slightly swollen or be a little red at the injection sites. Most people can go about their day immediately. You'll receive clear aftercare tips so you know what to do and what to avoid in the first days.
Part of the result you see immediately after treatment, because the volume is added right away. Do keep in mind that there may be some swelling the first days, making it look a bit fuller than the final result. So give your face some time to settle.
After about two weeks, the swelling is gone and you see the true "after". That's also when an honest before-and-after comparison is meaningful. Many people notice their face looks more rested and softer, without anyone being able to pinpoint what changed.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary. How long the result lasts varies per person and depends on the product, the amount, and your own metabolism. We discuss this realistically during your consultation, so you know when a possible touch-up or refresh is relevant.
The most common reactions are mild and temporary: redness, swelling, tenderness, or a bruise at the injection site. This typically disappears within a few days to a good week. That's normal with the treatment and not a reason for concern.
Rarer, but important to mention, are more serious risks such as lumps, inflammation, or a vascular problem when filler enters or presses against a blood vessel. That's precisely why it's crucial that a doctor with excellent knowledge of the midface anatomy performs the treatment. A major advantage of hyaluronic acid is that in most cases it's dissolvable with an antidote.
We deliberately work subtly and step by step, because you can always add more, but too much at once cannot simply be reversed in a natural way. Honest advice and safety come first.
The price of cheek fillers depends on several things: how much volume loss there is, how much product is needed, and which filler suits you best. That's why we can't give an exact amount online; it would give you a wrong impression.
During your consultation, we look at what you need and you get an honest estimate of the costs, with no pressure to do anything. Sometimes the advice is to treat less than you thought, or to address something else first.
Would you like to know if cheek fillers make the difference between "before" and "after" for you? Then feel free to schedule a consultation. Together, we'll calmly see what fits your face and your wish.

Make an appointmentWhile a classic hyaluronic acid filler immediately fills the cheeks by adding moisture to the tissue, Sculptra works fundamentally differently. Sculptra is a biostimulator that contains poly-L-lactic acid, a substance that stimulates your own skin cells to produce new collagen. This process, which takes place over weeks to months, results in a very gradual, subtle volume increase that seamlessly matches your natural facial features. No volume is added from the outside; instead, your body rebuilds its own support tissue, exactly what you lost over the years.
Hyaluronic acid fillers provide a visible change that can mature over days, but also carry the risk of a full or round appearance if too much is injected. With Sculptra, that risk is almost nonexistent: the volume grows so gradually that no one can tell you've had a treatment. Consequently, the cheeks feel more natural to the touch, soft and supple, without palpable gel lumps. This advantage is significant for many patients, especially those who have an active role in a professional or public setting.
Sculptra is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Dr T. selects candidates carefully based on skin quality, bone structure, and the degree to which the skin still responds to collagen stimulation. Someone with significant volume and firmness loss, where the skin has become thin and lax, can often achieve surprisingly beautiful results. Younger patients who are just noticing the first signs of aging use Sculptra rather preventively to maintain their skin condition. During your first consultation, we thoroughly examine whether Sculptra fits your age and tissue type.
A Sculptra treatment doesn't proceed like a quick filler appointment. Below you can read what a journey with Dr T. looks like, from first acquaintance to the final result.
Everything starts with an open conversation. Dr T. takes ample time to examine your face in detail, not just the cheeks but also the transitions to the temples, jawline, and eyes. Where exactly is the volume loss? How does the skin move when you smile? Based on this analysis, a tailored plan is proposed, including the number of vials and sessions. Because Sculptra is a slow worker, a realistic expectation is essential, that's what this consultation step is for.
The Sculptra powder is freshly reconstituted in a sterile solution and hydrated for at least 30 minutes so that the particles are evenly distributed. Then the injection points are marked and disinfected. Dr T. preferably works with a cannula: a blunt, flexible tip that allows treating a large area in the cheek with minimal punctures. This reduces the chance of bruising and provides a more comfortable experience. The injections themselves take about 15 to 30 minutes and are well tolerated due to the added anesthetic.
Immediately after treatment, correct aftercare is crucial for a smooth, even result. Dr T. explains the 5-5-5 rule verbally and in writing: massage the treated cheeks for 5 minutes, repeat this 5 times a day, and do this for 5 days. The massage helps distribute the Sculptra micro-particles evenly and activate the natural collagen process everywhere. If this step is skipped, palpable lumps may form that are difficult to correct later.
In the first two to four weeks, you may not see any change yet. Only after the first session or two does the volume begin to gently increase. The final result is typically visible two to three months after the last session. Then the skin feels and looks firmer, the cheeks are beautifully curved, and the midface no longer sags. Because it's your own collagen reviving the cheeks, it never looks overdone. You're left with a healthy, energetic appearance, without anyone thinking of a doctor's appointment.
