Do you find your upper lip a bit thin, flat or without a clear shape? With an upper lip filler, we subtly restore volume and accentuate your cupid's bow, without your lips looking forced or overfilled. The goal is a result that suits your face, not a trend. On this page, you will read how an upper lip filler exactly works, who it is suitable for and when it is not, how a treatment at Dr T. goes, and what you can expect in terms of result and safety.

An upper lip filler is an injection with hyaluronic acid, a substance that your body also produces itself and that attracts moisture. We apply it very precisely in the upper lip to provide volume where it is missing and to support the shape of your lip.
The upper lip is a subtle area. A small amount of product in the right place already makes a big difference: a slightly fuller lip, a more beautifully defined cupid's bow, or just a bit more balance with your lower lip. So it's not about "as much volume as possible", but about the right proportion for your face.
At Dr T. we consciously choose a natural and respectful result. Your upper lip remains supple and moves when you talk and smile, so that it doesn't look stiff or overfilled.
An upper lip filler can be suitable if your upper lip is naturally thin, if it has lost some volume and definition over the years, or if the arch has become a bit flat. Also, with a slight imbalance between upper and lower lip, a subtle correction can help.
Sometimes a filler is not the best choice. With an active cold sore (herpes), an inflammation or irritation in the lip area, we wait until it has healed. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, we do not perform this treatment. Also, if your expectations are not realistic, for example a very large or perfectly symmetrical lip, we discuss this honestly and possibly suggest another or no treatment.
If you have had filler in your lips before, or a product other than hyaluronic acid, that is important to know. During the consultation, we map out your history so that we can work safely.
We always start with a conversation. You tell us what bothers you about your upper lip and what you wish, and Dr T. assesses your lip shape, the proportion to your lower lip and your face. Together we determine whether a filler makes sense and how much subtlety your lip needs.
The treatment itself is short. We use a fine needle and most fillers contain a numbing agent, often we supplement this with a local anaesthetic or cooling to keep it comfortable. We work in small steps and assess the shape in between, so that we don't apply more than necessary.
Afterwards, your upper lip may feel a bit swollen and possibly show some small bruises. That is normal and temporary. You will receive clear aftercare advice and, if desired, a check-up moment to evaluate the result.
The effect is immediately visible: your upper lip looks fuller and the arch is more pronounced. However, the first days you also see some swelling, so the real final result is only assessed once that has subsided, usually after about two weeks.
How long the result lasts varies per person. Hyaluronic acid is gradually broken down by your body, and the lips are a mobile area where the product often disappears a bit faster than elsewhere. So a touch-up after some time is normal, not a sign that something went wrong.
We prefer to build up slowly rather than doing too much at once. This way you keep a natural result and we can fine-tune at a next appointment until it suits you.
An upper lip filler is a medical treatment. The most common side effects are temporary: swelling, sensitivity, small bruises and sometimes a bit of unevenness in the first days. That usually resolves on its own.
Rarer but more serious risks also exist, such as a blockage of a blood vessel. That is why it is important that a filler is administered by a doctor who knows the anatomy of the lip area well and who knows how to act if something goes wrong. A great advantage of hyaluronic acid is that in emergencies it is dissolvable with an antidote.
At Dr T. you will receive honest information beforehand about what you can expect and what the possible risks are. If Dr T. doubts whether a filler is the right thing in your situation, he will say so too. Safety and honest advice always outweigh the treatment itself.
The price of an upper lip filler depends on what your lip needs: the amount of product, the type of filler and whether it is a first treatment or a touch-up. That is why we do not state a fixed amount beforehand that may not be correct in your case.
During the consultation, we look at your situation together and you will receive an honest estimate of the cost, without surprises afterwards. This way you can calmly and well-informed decide whether you want the treatment.
Would you like to know if an upper lip filler is something for you, and how subtle it can be in your case? Then book a consultation at Dr T. in Ghent. We will examine your lip, listen to your wishes and give you honest advice.

Book an appointmentEvery filler behaves differently. Molecule size, cross-linking, and elasticity shape how the hyaluronic acid settles into your lip tissue. For subtle refinement of fine lip lines, I select a soft, flexible filler that blends in well and moves naturally with your expressions. When you want more definition, a sharper cupid’s bow or fuller volume, I reach for a product with slightly more structure, while preserving a soft, natural feel.
Your consultation starts with a careful look at your lip shape, facial proportions, and what you hope to achieve. I exclusively use fillers that are easy to sculpt and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. The result? A refreshed, authentic version of you that never looks artificial.
