Are you starting to notice fine lines and wrinkles, but still want to stay true to yourself? At Dr T. in Gent, we first look at how your skin and face are really aging, and only then at the treatment that fits. No standard recipe, but an approach that is subtle and respectful. On this page you can read about the different types of wrinkles, the treatments available to reduce them, who they are suitable for and when it鈥檚 better to wait. This way, you know what to expect upfront, honestly and without any fluff.

Not every wrinkle is the same, and that鈥檚 exactly why the treatment varies. So-called dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle movement: think of the frown line between your eyebrows, the lines on your forehead or the crow鈥檚 feet around your eyes. They deepen each time you make an expression.
In addition, there are static wrinkles and folds that remain visible even at rest. These are related to volume loss, a skin that becomes thinner, drier and less elastic. The nasolabial folds next to your nose or fine lines on the cheeks fall into this category.
Because the cause differs, the solution differs too. A proper assessment of which type of wrinkle you have where is therefore the first and most important step.
For dynamic wrinkles, Botox often works best. By gently relaxing the underlying muscle, for example, the frown line fades or crow鈥檚 feet become less deep, without your face losing its natural expression.
For static folds and volume loss, fillers or biostimulators such as Sculptra are a better choice. Fillers specifically plump up a fold, while biostimulators encourage your skin to produce its own collagen again, for gradual and natural restoration.
Are you mainly dealing with dull skin with fine lines and little glow? Then skinboosters like Profhilo or polynucleotides can improve skin quality. Which approach suits you, we鈥檒l look at together during a consultation.
Wrinkle treatments are suitable for those who are bothered by fine lines or folds and are looking for a natural, non-exaggerated result. The best effect is usually achieved if you act early and subtly, rather than waiting until folds are etched in very deep.
Some situations call for caution or postponement. We do not perform these treatments during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Also, in case of an active infection or skin condition in the treatment area, certain autoimmune disorders, or a known allergy, we review it on a case-by-case basis.
Do you have expectations that cannot realistically be met with injectables, for example with severely sagging skin? Then we say so honestly and discuss which alternative does make sense. Rather no treatment than a disappointing result.
Everything starts with a consultation. We examine your skin, your facial dynamics and your wishes, and draw up a plan together. Dr T. explains what is achievable, which technique is involved and what you can realistically expect.
The treatment itself is done with fine needles and usually does not take long. Botox generally requires no numbing; for fillers we often use a product with built-in anesthetic, and for lip fillers also a numbing cream, so you remain comfortable.
Afterwards, you get clear aftercare advice. You can usually resume your day, with a few simple points of attention for the first few hours. If necessary, we schedule a follow-up to fine-tune the result.
The timing depends on the chosen treatment. Botox builds up in the days after treatment and is usually at its best after one to two weeks; the effect typically lasts several months. With fillers, you often see the volume effect immediately, with a short period of slight swelling.
Biostimulators and skinboosters work more slowly and subtly. They improve your skin gradually over weeks, sometimes spread over several sessions, with a result that looks very natural precisely because of that.
No treatment is permanent: wrinkles are part of a living face and skin keeps changing. The goal is not to stop time, but to make you look fresh and relaxed, recognizable as yourself.
Injectables are generally safe when performed by an experienced doctor with quality products. However, like any medical treatment, possible side effects include: small bruises, slight swelling, tenderness or redness at the injection site. These are usually mild and transient.
Rarer risks are discussed honestly and openly beforehand, together with the signs to watch for and how to contact us if something doesn鈥檛 feel right. Safety and honest advice are always paramount at Dr T.
The price of a wrinkle treatment depends on the type of wrinkle, the chosen technique and the amount of product you need. A fair estimate is therefore only given during the consultation, when it鈥檚 clear what is really needed in your case. Do you feel ready to discuss the possibilities? Feel free to book an appointment.
