Do you dream of slightly fuller, more beautifully shaped lips, but absolutely do not want an overfilled or exaggerated look? Then a subtle lip enhancement with fillers might be for you. The goal is simple: to enhance your own lips, so the result feels natural and no one can pinpoint exactly what's different. On this page, you'll read how a subtle lip enhancement works, who it's suitable for and when it's better not, how the treatment at Dr T. proceeds, and what you can expect in terms of results and safety. Honest, and without prettier promises than we can keep.

In a subtle lip enhancement, we use a fine needle to inject a small amount of hyaluronic acid filler into your lips. Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body also produces naturally and which binds moisture, making your lips look fuller and firmer. We work with low doses and with attention to your natural lip shape.
Subtle here really means subtle. We don't chase maximum volume, but balance: a nice bow, a slightly fuller lip edge, or just a touch more hydration where your lips need it. The difference should be noticeable to you, without your face looking different because of it.
Sometimes it's less about volume and more about shape or definition. Softening a slight asymmetry, accentuating the cupid's bow, or adding a bit of fullness to a thinning upper lip can already make a big difference, with very little product.
This treatment suits those who want a bit more volume or a refined lip shape, but are afraid of an unnatural result. Also, if your lips have become thinner or flatter over the years, a subtle filling can give your face some freshness again.
A subtle lip enhancement is not the right choice for everyone at every moment. With an active cold sore (herpes), an inflammation or irritation of the lips, we wait until everything has healed. During pregnancy and breastfeeding we do not perform the treatment, and with certain conditions or medications we first check if it can be done safely.
If you have expectations that don't match a subtle result, or if there is an underlying reason why fillers are inadvisable, we say so honestly. Rather an open conversation than a treatment you are not happy with afterwards.
Everything starts with a consultation. Together we look at your lips, listen to what exactly you want to achieve, and discuss what is realistic for your starting situation. Only when you and Dr T. are on the same page do we schedule the treatment.
The treatment itself usually takes between half an hour and three quarters of an hour. To keep it comfortable, we use a filler with built-in anesthetic and a numbing cream can be applied. With a fine needle or cannula, we place the product carefully and in small steps, so we can adjust the shape during the treatment.
Afterwards, your lips may feel a bit swollen, that's normal. We give you clear aftercare advice and discuss when a short check-up or touch-up might be useful.
Part of the result is visible immediately, but your lips are often still a bit swollen the first few days. The true, definitive result is therefore best assessed after about two weeks, when the swelling has completely gone down and the product has settled nicely.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary. How long the effect lasts varies from person to person, depending on your metabolism, the amount of product, and your lifestyle. Lips are a mobile area, so filler generally disappears a bit faster here than in other parts of the face.
If you want to maintain the result, you can have it refreshed in time. But there's no obligation: if you don't get it topped up, your lips gradually return to their original shape.
Lip fillers are a commonly used treatment, but they remain a medical procedure. The most common side effects are temporary: swelling, redness, sensitivity, and sometimes a bruise at the injection site. That usually resolves within a few days.
Rarer risks also exist, such as small lumps, an uneven distribution, or, very exceptionally, a vascular problem. That's why it's important that a doctor with knowledge of the anatomy performs the treatment. A major advantage of hyaluronic acid is that in emergencies or with an unsatisfactory result, it can be dissolved with an antidote.
At Dr T., we consciously choose caution: rather work in steps and touch up if necessary, than inject too much at once. Safety and a natural result always outweigh speed.
The price of a subtle lip enhancement depends on what your lips need: how much product is used and whether it's a first treatment or a touch-up. Because this varies per person, we don't give a fixed amount that applies to everyone.
During the consultation, we look together at what is realistic for your wishes, and you'll get an honest estimate of the cost, without surprises afterwards. That way you know what to expect upfront.
Still unsure if a subtle lip enhancement is right for you? Feel free to schedule a consultation. Then we'll calmly look at it together and you only decide afterwards if you want to go ahead.

Lip fillers give shape and volume, but truly natural rejuvenation takes more than filling alone. Over the years, the skin around the lips loses firmness and elasticity, which leads to fine lines and creases, also known as 'barcode lips'. This is where skin boosters offer a logical complement. We do not use Sculptra around the mouth: that area belongs to the T-zone (forehead, eyes, nose and around the mouth).
Skin boosters hydrate intensively and improve the 'glow' of the lips, without adding extra volume.
During a consultation, we look together at the balance of your face and decide whether a combined approach would further enhance the subtle effect you are after. The aim? A subtle change that comes across as a fresher look rather than as a treatment.
