Just had a lip filler placed or is your appointment coming up? Naturally, you want your result to settle as well as possible. Proper aftercare helps limit swelling and bruising and gives the filler the rest it needs to settle beautifully. On this page, you'll read clearly what you should avoid in the first hours and days after a lip filler. No complicated rules, just honest, practical advice so you go home with peace of mind.

A lip filler is a small but precise treatment. The hyaluronic acid filler needs some time to integrate into the tissue of your lips. In that first period, your lip area is more sensitive and may feel somewhat swollen or tender. That's normal and part of the process.
Good aftercare isn't about strict prohibitions, but about giving your lips a break. By avoiding heat, pressure and intense exertion in the first few days, you give swelling and possible bruising less chance and let the result settle calmly into place.
Below you'll find per topic what you should avoid and why. If you have any specific doubts about your situation, we're happy to discuss them during your appointment.
The first one to two days are the most important. Avoid strenuous exercise, fitness and anything that causes your blood pressure and body temperature to rise sharply. The extra circulation can worsen swelling or bruising. A gentle walk is usually fine, but listen to your body above all.
Also stay away from heat sources such as sauna, hammam, steam room, tanning bed and hot baths. Heat increases swelling and is not ideal for your lips in this settling phase. Drink in moderation and be careful with alcohol, as it thins the blood and can promote bruising.
Try not to massage your lips, touch them firmly or constantly fiddle with them with your tongue or fingers in the first hours. Leave the filler alone and it will settle most beautifully.
It's tempting to feel your lips with your fingers, but too much pushing, squeezing or massaging can displace the freshly placed filler. Only touch your lips gently and with clean hands. Also avoid pursing your lips for selfies or pressing them together on the first day.
It's best to wait with lipstick, lip gloss and makeup on your lips until the small puncture holes have closed, usually after about a day. This keeps the area clean and gives bacteria no chance. The same caution applies to kissing and drinking extensively through a straw immediately after the treatment.
Sleep preferably on your back with your head slightly elevated the first night. Lying flat on your face on the pillow puts unnecessary pressure on your lips.
It's best to postpone vigorous sports, strength training and swimming for a few days. Not only because of the circulation, but also because sweat and chlorine or swimming pool water can irritate the small puncture area as long as it isn't fully closed.
Also avoid bright sun and tanning beds in the first days. Direct heat on your lips promotes swelling. If you do go outside, protect your lips with an SPF lip balm once the area has calmed down.
Planning a flight or an important occasion like a wedding? Keep in mind that lips can still be somewhat swollen in the first days. Therefore, plan a lip filler preferably well in advance, about two weeks, before such an event.
It's best to limit alcohol and smoking around the treatment. Alcohol thins the blood and increases the risk of bruising, while smoking delays tissue recovery. A few days off in this regard helps your result.
As for blood-thinning medication: never stop prescribed medication on your own initiative. If you use blood thinners or certain supplements, discuss this beforehand during your consultation so we can safely coordinate the approach together. For pain relief, it's best to choose in consultation with us, because some anti-inflammatory drugs increase the risk of bleeding.
Feeling unwell, have a fever or a cold sore coming up around the lips? Let us know beforehand. Sometimes it's wiser to postpone the treatment slightly, and we'll tell you honestly.
Mild swelling, a sensitive or somewhat tight feeling and small bruises are normal in the first days. Lips often feel fuller and more uneven immediately after the treatment than the final result. Give it time; usually the swelling subsides within a few days to a couple of weeks.
Feel free to gently cool with a clean cold pack wrapped in a cloth if your lips feel swollen, but do not press hard. Drink plenty of water and be gentle with yourself during this settling period.
However, contact us immediately if you experience severe or increasing pain, strong or white discoloration of the lip, cold spots, blistering or signs that don't seem right. Such signals should never be ignored. You can always reach us if you have doubts; that鈥檚 what we鈥檙e here for.

A smooth recovery starts before the treatment. Stay well hydrated, avoid blood-thinning substances such as aspirin and ibuprofen, and consider using arnica to reduce bruising. Ask your doctor about a soothing cream or cold compresses. By following these simple steps, you support the settling of the filler and enjoy a natural, fresh result sooner, with as few visible traces as possible.
