Are you pregnant, or trying to conceive, and wondering if you can safely get lip fillers? A logical question, and an honest answer is part of that. On this page, you'll read why at Dr T. we never give lip fillers during pregnancy and breastfeeding, what we advise instead, and when a treatment can be done again.

The short answer: no. We never give lip fillers during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Not because there is evidence that hyaluronic acid fillers are harmful to your baby, but because that evidence simply doesn't exist. Studies on fillers are understandably not conducted on pregnant women, so we can't firmly substantiate the safety for you and your child.
For us, that carries weight. A lip filler is an aesthetic, non-essential treatment. That is why we never treat during this period and postpone the treatment until after pregnancy and breastfeeding. It's not exaggerated fear, it's just honest and respectful handling of a period where two people count.
For Dr T., pregnancy and breastfeeding are an absolute contraindication for all injectable treatments, because it would be ethically irresponsible to run studies on unborn babies or infants.
During your pregnancy, your body changes significantly. Your hormones fluctuate, you retain fluid more easily, and your blood circulation increases. This can affect how your lips react to a filler: more swelling, a less predictable result, and a greater chance of an outcome you may not like afterwards.
Additionally, there is the small but real risk of inflammation or a vascular complication that comes with any filler. If that happens, we want to be able to treat freely with, for example, antibiotics or a dissolving agent (hyaluronidase). During pregnancy, the choice of medication is more limited, making managing a complication more difficult.
The possible benefit is purely cosmetic and temporary, while the uncertainty and narrower treatment margin remain. For us, that is reason enough to always wait.
We don't give lip fillers during breastfeeding either. Just like during pregnancy, there is no research proving that a filler is safe for your baby during this period. It is unknown whether and to what extent substances pass into your breast milk, and that uncertainty alone is reason for us to postpone.
Good news: it's truly about postponement, not cancellation. As soon as you are no longer pregnant and breastfeeding is finished, in most cases a lip filler can be done again. We'll assess that together during a consultation.
Waiting doesn't mean you can't do anything for your lips. Good lip care helps: stay well hydrated, use a nourishing lip balm, and protect your lips from sun and drying out. Little things, but they keep your lips soft and healthy.
If you especially suffer from dry or chapped lips due to pregnancy, that's usually temporary and hormonal. It often improves on its own after delivery. If you have concerns about your lips or skin, you can always raise them, even if you're not yet ready for a treatment.
Would you still like to get oriented on a lip filler for later? Then you can already schedule a no-obligation consultation now to discuss your wishes, without anything happening before it's responsible.
After pregnancy and breastfeeding, we calmly reassess your situation. We look at your lips, your wishes, and your general situation, and only schedule a treatment when it's a good and safe time for you. No pressure, no rush.
During that consultation, you'll receive honest advice: what a lip filler can mean in your case, what a natural and subtle result is for you, and what you can realistically expect. If a filler isn't the best choice for you, we'll tell you that too.
Still unsure if this is the right time? Feel free to make an appointment. Then we'll look together, honestly and without pressure, at what the best timing is for you.
At Dr T. we don't treat just because something is possible, but because it's responsible at that moment. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, that means: no injectable treatments, without exception. Your health and that of your baby take priority over an aesthetic result that can also be achieved later.
Did you already get a filler before you knew you were pregnant? Don't worry unnecessarily. There is no reason to panic, but do discuss it with your doctor or midwife so you can be reassured. For new treatments, the rule is: we'll wait together for the right moment.
